Request for Information - WBC-FOI-00562 - Care placements

I refer to your request for information received on 25 January 2023. Please see the information below in response to your request: -

1.What is the furthest distance approximately a child is placed on an out of area placement from their home in the following categories - and to which (nearest) town/city:

a) Foster placement?

Between 120 and 130 miles. Please note that Wandsworth Council considers that disclosure of the nearest town or city could lead to identification of the child and therefore, this information is exempt from disclosure under Section 40 (2)(b) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, as releasing personal information relating to other individuals would breach the Data Protection principles. Please note that this is an absolute exemption under the Freedom of Information Act and therefore the public interest test does not apply.

b) Residential placement?

Between 150 and 160 miles. The Council considers that disclosure of the nearest town or city could lead to identification of the child and therefore, this information is exempt from disclosure under Section 40 (2)(b) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, as releasing personal information relating to other individuals would breach the Data Protection principles.

2.How many children are placed more than:

a) a fifty mile distance from their home?

12

b) a one hundred mile distance from their home?

Fewer than 5.

c) a one hundred and fifty mile distance from their home?

<5

d) a two hundred mile distance from their home?

<5

e) a two hundred and fifty mile distance from their home?

<5

You will notice that the phrase 'fewer than 5' has been used in lieu of some exact figures above. This is because Wandsworth Council considers that disclosure of very low numbers of individuals would enable the identification of a living individual from that information, or, from the information and other data in the possession of, or likely to come into the possession of, a data controller. Disclosure of the requested information would result in a breach of one or more of the principles of the GDPR/DPA 2018 and the information is therefore exempt in accordance with Section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I hope this information meets your needs. If you do not understand the information provided or wish to discuss anything further, please feel free to contact us.
