Your Request:

I am conducting research in relation to the number of cars that are abandoned per year, and wondered if you hold the following data please:

The number of vehicles reported as abandoned within your area, broken down by year across the last 5 years (from Jan 2018-Jan 2023). If possible, please also include the make and model and registration year of any of these abandoned vehicles.

Our Response:

Please note that Wandsworth Council are unable to provide this information as we consider the cost to do so would exceed the FOI appropriate limit, as specified in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004; therefore section 12(1) of the Act applies. The appropriate limit has been set at £450 and may include working hours of any person acting on our behalf at a rate of £25 per hour. This equates to 18 hours to locate and extract the relevant information.

To comply with your request would take more than 18 hours as the information is not held in a readily extractable format and would require a manual undertaking to review approximately 1205 records. Even at a conservative estimate of 5 minutes per case file, it would take more than 93 hours to identify, locate, retrieve, and extract the relevant information and to supply on an excel spreadsheet broken down by every year. This significantly exceeds the appropriate limit under the Act.

In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this email acts as a Refusal Notice.

If you are dissatisfied with the information provided in relation to your request, you may make representations to the Information and Transparency Manager. Any such request for an internal review should be made within 40 days from today's date. Correspondence should be addressed to: FOIW@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision at: https://ico.org.uk/global/contact-us/
