Request for Information - WBC-FOI-00321 - Secure cycle spaces

I refer to your request for information received on 03 January 2023. Please see the information below in response to your request: -

1.The number of secure residential cycle spaces that were installed in the borough prior to 4 May 2022? Please break this down according to spaces in on-street cycle hangars or any other cycle storage solution (such as those on estates)?

216 spaces (36 bikehangars) installed on-street prior to 04/05/2022.

1,073 enclosures and spaces on estates and housing land.

2.The number of secure residential cycle spaces installed in the borough at the time of this request? Please break this down according to spaces in on-street cycle hangars or any other cycle storage solution (such as those on estates)?

630 spaces (105 hangars with more being installed daily at the moment so figure is estimate) installed on-street as of 04/01/2023.

1,075 enclosures and spaces at last review on estates and housing land. Although one of the Council's Housing teams estimates there may be another 40-50.

3.The number of new secure residential cycle spaces that are planned to be installed prior to 7 May 2026? Please break this down according to spaces in on-street cycle hangars or any other cycle storage solution (such as those on estates)?

Permission for 126 more spaces (21 more bikehangars) on-street, consultation planned for up to 600 additional spaces (100 additional hangars) in 2023. It is expected that a similar number will be sought per year. Currently planning on installing 180 spaces (30 hangars) on estates in 2023.

On housing land: 3 cycle spaces, 28 cycle pods with 6 bikes per pod, 1 enclosure for 20 bikes and x7 6-space bicycle hangars. In addition, one of the Council's Housing teams anticipate an additional 150-200 secure spaces may be needed based on previous years' information.

4.The annual cost of one residential cycle space? Please break this down according to spaces in on-street cycle hangars or any other cycle storage solution (such as those on estates)? Please identify any discounts?

Spaces cost £72 per year for on-street hangars, with the price set by CycleHoop. Spaces on housing estates are free of charge for estate residents.

5.The number of residents that have expressed interest for a secure cycle space (eg placed on a waiting list or similar mechanism) that are yet to be allocated one? Where possible, please break this down according to residents living on street and those in estates?

Please note that Wandsworth Council does not hold waiting list information, this is held by CycleHoop for the on-street hangars. We have an online request form for on-street bikehangars with ~ 3800 requests (these are not all unique, with some residents making multiple requests).

20 residents on the Council's housing estates.

6.The organisation that maintains and operates your cycle storage solutions (ie in-house borough department or outsourced)?

On-street bikehangars are managed by CycleHoop and those on estates are managed by the Council's local Housing teams.
