Taking action on abuse, harassment and violence: resources for local businesses
We are committed to working in partnership with local businesses and licensed venues to create safe, respectful and welcoming environments for everyone. This forms part of our wider efforts to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
A range of initiatives, training opportunities and resources are available to support businesses and licensed venues across Wandsworth in making their premises safer for customers and staff.
Sexual harassment and spiking training
This free e-learning course will help increase your understanding of sexual harassment and drink spiking prevention, and the impact it can have on individuals, communities and workplaces. It provides practical information including how to recognise potential concerns and respond safely and appropriately, often in very sensitive situations.
Whether you are a business owner, manager, employee, volunteer or security staff member, the training will help build your confidence and understanding.
It should be completed in a single sitting and should take no more than 45 minutes.

Support for hospitality staff
There is a range of support available for those in the hospitality sector. The following organisations give advice, wellbeing support and practical assistance to hospitality workers, managers and business owners:
- Hospitality Action supports anyone working in hospitality by providing advice and support with issues including physical illness, mental health issues and family difficulties
- Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) provides practical advice, wellbeing support and financial advice to anyone working in the licensed hospitality sector. It also provides a 24/7 free helpline (0808 801 0550) and live chat function via its LTC Wellbeing Platform
- The Drinks Trust provides emotional and wellbeing support, financial assistance and industry training for anyone who works or previously worked in the drinks industry, or aspires to do so
Work with your local BID
Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are independent, business-led, business-funded organisations formed to improve a defined commercial area. BIDs provide practical support to local businesses through training, networking opportunities, safety and crime prevention initiatives, marketing campaigns, events and town centre improvements. Find your local BID.
Register as a Safe Haven
Offer a place of safety for anyone who needs it by signing up to become a Safe Haven. Our Community Safety Officers will support you in implementing this free scheme in your venue.
Become an active bystander
Join a more in-depth online session on how to intervene safely if you witness sexual harassment. You can also contact us to arrange a dedicated in-person or online session for your team. Find out more about active bystander training.

These were created as part of our Safer Streets work with Richmond, Kingston and Merton.
- Employers policy guidance: helping to establish or improve on their policies related to domestic abuse and all forms of violence against women and girls
- Supporting disclosures in the workplace: supporting employers as they promote a safe working environment and encouraging a culture where employees feel able to disclose abuse
- Bystander intervention guide: encouraging employees to take a stand against all forms of abuse and provides guidance for individuals to challenge or report abusive behaviour without putting themselves at risk
Make the White Ribbon Promise
Show your commitment to ending VAWG by making the White Ribbon Promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women and girls.
Local businesses can also become accredited or supporter White Ribbon organisations, receiving support and training for your staff.
