Report a letting agent to trading standards
If you have a complaint about the fees you have been charged by a letting agent or landlord, you can let us know.
What we regulate
Trading standards regulate aspects of the businesses of letting agents, property managers and landlords.
Banned tenant charges
If a landlord or letting agent charges a tenant a banned fee, we can issue a fine of up to £5,000.
If they break the rules again, they can be prosecuted and face an unlimited fine.
Client Money Protection schemes
Client Money Protection (CMP) schemes keep tenants’ and landlords’ money safe.
How it works
If a letting agent misuses or takes this money, you can claim compensation from the CMP scheme. These schemes are free to use.
Penalties
Agents who are not members of a CMP scheme can be fined up to £30,000.
Redress schemes
Redress schemes are free to use.
How it works
They help resolve disputes between tenants and agents or property managers and can award compensation where needed.
Penalties
Agents or property managers who do not join a redress scheme can be fined up to £5,000.
You can check that your agent is a member of the scheme (Powys County Council).
