Thrive - Using gardening to change lives

DescriptionThrive is an expanding national charity that works to enable disabled people to make positive life changes and achieve their ambitions through gardening. Thrive runs a variety of projects, including programmes for young people living with learning disabilities or complex needs and an outreach community food growing projects. There are projects locally at Battersea Park and other areas of south London. These can help by:

- Improving physical health
Helping people recover or rebuild their lives after an illness, accident or stroke

- Improving psychological health
Helping people discover a sense of purpose and achievement as well as improving self-esteem and self-worth

- Socialising
Many disabled people are socially isolated, but people who have greater social contact feel healthier and better for it

- Gaining skills and qualifications
Improving their chances of employment, learning volunteering skills and gaining life skills such as initiative, cooperation, decision making, patience and concentration

- Accessing the natural environment
Getting fresh air and seeing things grow are important to us as human beings
