Deadline extended for businesses to apply for discretionary fund
Published: Wednesday, June 17, 2020
Small businesses in Wandsworth now have an extra day to apply for a new discretionary business fund scheme if they have been affected by COVID-19.
Those businesses not eligible for Small Business or Retail, Leisure and Hospitality grants can apply to Wandsworth Council for a share of a new government funding pot which has an extended deadline of 5pm on 19 June 2020.
The total fund is limited to £2.883million and aimed at those businesses operating in shared spaces, charities who were unable to claim small business rate relief, market traders and bed and breakfast businesses which currently pay Council Tax.
Councillor Rory O’Broin said: “This extra day should give the borough’s small and micro businesses a bit more time to check if they are eligible for the scheme and get their applications in before it closes.
“Over 260 businesses have already applied for this fund so we urge any other market traders or small businesses working out of shared offices to come forward before the fund closes so that their application can be considered for a payout.”
In line with government guidance, priority has been given to those charities, businesses with ongoing property or workspace costs, market traders and licenced bed and breakfasts who were trading on 11 March.
Businesses can apply for the new discretionary business fund scheme until 5pm on 19 June 2020.
Once all applications have been received and assessed the council will decide on how to allocate the available funds to successful businesses.

About the grant scheme
The scheme is funded via a grant from central Government and is calculated as 5% of the combined values of the Small Business Grant Scheme and the retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Scheme. For Wandsworth, this gives a total amount of £2.883m.
