The five open spaces have all been awarded a coveted Green Flag – confirming them as among the best green spaces in the country.

Prestigious Green Flags now fly proudly over Battersea Park, Wandsworth Common, Tooting Common, Wandsworth Park and King George’s Park.

The award is an internationally recognised quality mark for parks and green spaces and is awarded to open spaces that boast high environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and offer excellent visitor facilities.

The borough’s cabinet member for environment Cllr Judi Gasser said: “Wandsworth boasts some of the capital’s most popular and attractive green open spaces. They offer local people really beautiful and tranquil places to not only relax, unwind and meet friends but also to enjoy a huge range of sports, fitness and leisure activities.

“I’m delighted they have been honoured with these prestigious awards and so pleased that the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in looking after them has been recognised by the judges.”

Announcing the winners, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making these parks and commons worthy of a Green Flag Award.

“They are vital green spaces for the community in Wandsworth. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
