Together on energy

We are making changes to council owned buildings that will help to reduce their carbon footprint and encouraging homeowners to make similar changes.

We are putting planning regulations in place to make sure new housing and buildings for the borough are environmentally sustainable.

What we are doing

Actions we are taking on energy:

  • Switching 65,000 light bulbs in council owned buildings to LED lightening which consume up to 80% less energy than traditional light bulbs
  • Switching to a renewable energy company to power our buildings, which has reduced our carbon emission from buildings to zero
  • Encouraging homeowners and first-time buyers to use renewable energy supplier
  • Secured GHG funding – Green Homes Grant offers vouchers to upgrade homes with poor energy efficiency
  • Decarbonisation strategy in development

What you can do

Actions you can take:

  • Check your energy efficiency rating, if it CDE you may be eligible for GHG funding
  • Switch off lights and appliances when they are not in use or needed
