Road users alerted to Hammersmith Bridge closure
Published: 9 August 2018
Road users are being given advance warning that traffic congestion is expected to be heavier on some river crossings later this month when Hammersmith Bridge closes again to vehicle traffic for four days.
Neighbouring Hammersmith & Fulham Council, in partnership with Transport for London, has announced the bridge will be closed between 7am and 7pm each day from Monday, August 20 until Thursday, August 23.
During the works, motorists will be diverted instead over Putney and Chiswick Bridges, with traffic delays expected on the approaches to both.
Pedestrian access over the bridge will be maintained. Cyclists, however, will need to dismount and walk across or divert over Chiswick or Putney Bridges.
The closure will also affect bus routes 33, 72, 209, 419 and 485. All apart from the 72 will terminate before the bridge but passengers will be able to walk across before resuming their journeys on the other side. Some 72 buses will be diverted over Chiswick Bridge but others on that route will terminate at Hammersmith Bridge.
