Shoppers across Wandsworth can take advantage of a whole host of discounts and special offers by keeping it local this weekend.

Small Business Saturday takes place on December 2, which is expected to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The aim is to encourage local people to explore their own neighbourhood and unearth the wide range of shops and diverse retail opportunities on their doorstep.
Small neighbourhood businesses are the lifeblood of their communities and give residents a unique shopping experience. This year Wandsworth is supporting Small Business Saturday as part of its annual campaign to encourage people to shop locally. Shops around the borough have been encouraged to take part and will be publicising their offers via the council’s Wandsworth Small Biz twitter feed in the run up to, and on, the day.
The weekend is all about encouraging Christmas shoppers to keep it local in the hope they will see and appreciate the unique lure of the shops in their area and become customers the whole year round.
Local Business owner Laura Amos of the Dessert Deli in Northcote Road will be offering customers a special ‘buy one get one free’ deal on cup cakes. She said: “If everyone in the local area was to spend a couple pounds in each independent business then everyone would survive. Often the small independent businesses are the ones who also help promote their local area and give back in any way they can too. What goes around comes around. Every pound counts...”
The council’s business spokesman Cllr Kim Caddy will be visiting participating businesses on the day. She said: “The heart of any community is its shopping centre and buying everything online makes it hard for small, independent shops to survive. That’s why the council has been working with local traders to help make Small Business Saturday a success.
Small Business Saturday 2016
“For every pound spent in a local independent shop or locally owned business, up to 70p benefits our local community, but if you shop at an out of town centre or online as little as 5p finds its way back.
“So please save some of Christmas shopping for your local stores and make the most of the offers and discounts on Saturday.”
