Apply now for youth grant

Published: 8 August 2017

Applications are now being accepted for the latest round of Youth Opportunity Fund (YOF) grants.

The Wandsworth Youth Opportunity Fund (YOF) is a grant to which young people can apply to fund community projects or activities, or to spruce up premises used by youth groups.

A panel of specially-trained youngsters listen to presentations by applicants and then decide who should get the cash. After grants have been awarded they go and inspect projects to monitor how the money has been spent.

Recent successful applicants include CARAS, a group which works with refugees and asylum seekers. They used the money to set up the CARAS Youth Council which represents the views and needs of young people in the organisation and runs consultations, trips, activities, career days and volunteer recruitment.

Applicants should apply as a group, and will need an adult sponsor. Successful projects will receive up to £4,000 and will be expected to

  • Genuinely come from young people
  • Include a range of young people, particularly those who are marginalized or disadvantaged
  • Help young people achieve something positive
  • Have appropriate costs

The deadline for applications is September 18. There will be a Funding Factory at Caius House on the September 11 from at 5.30pm-7.30pm for any organisations that would like help writing an application.
