No change to festive refuse and recycling collection days

Published: 23 December 2016

Residents are being advised that there will be no change to their normal collection days over Christmas and the New Year.

People will not need to check calendars or follow different refuse and recycling instructions over the holiday period. This is because Christmas Day and New Years Day both fall on a Sunday – meaning normal collection services do not need to change.

Residents are being strongly urged to store binbags containing general waste including food scraps in lidded dustbins to prevent foxes and cats from ripping them open and leaving an unsightly mess in front gardens and pavements.

Much of what households accumulate over the holiday period, including wrapping paper, cards, envelopes, drinks cans, glass bottles, jars, juice cartons and plastic bottles can be placed in clear recycling sacks – or in orange lidded communal recycling bins but metallic 'foil' style wrapping paper should not be included.

The borough’s clear sack doorstep recycling service covers around 90,000 homes in the borough. Residents who receive this service and need more sacks can order them online at
