Wandsworth part of most highly educated region in Europe

Five west London boroughs, including Wandsworth, are home to the most highly-educated population in Europe, new figures reveal.

According to statistics from Eurostat, 70 per cent of adults within the ‘inner London west’ region have a degree or an equivalent qualification, a higher percentage than anywhere else in the EU.

Education spokesman Cllr Kathy Tracey said:

“There are lots of factors influencing these figures, including Wandsworth’s excellent school system which gives our young people a real advantage over other areas. Our vocational sector is also very strong so those who choose not to go to university benefit from high quality training and good career protects.”

Currently 92 per cent of Wandsworth’s primary and secondary schools are rated either good or outstanding by Ofsted. This is the capital’s second highest quality rating. Wandsworth also has a thriving vocational sector

The figures echo findings from the most recent census, which showed Wandsworth to have the second highest proportion of graduates in the UK, second only to the City of London.

The report follows hot on the heels of a survey last week which showed that Wandsworth residents are the happiest in inner London.
