TfL to carry out overnight resurfacing work in Tooting Bec Road

Published: 26 May 2016

Transport for London has announced it will be carrying out overnight resurfacing work in Tooting Bec Road starting next week.

Works to the stretch of carriageway on the A214 Tooting Bec Road between Balham High Road and Franciscan Road are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 31 and are likely to last for two weeks – although this timescale is dependant on weather conditions.

In order to reduce travel disruption during the day TfL has authorised the works to be carried out between 9pm and 5am Sundays to Thursdays.

This means that the works will be suspended on Friday and Saturday nights to give residents some respite.

TfL says that it will aim to complete all “noisy work” by midnight, but that some disturbance to local residents beyond that deadline is a possibility.

While the project is underway traffic diversions will be in place via Streatham High Road, Mitcham Lane, Southcroft Road, Mitcham Road, Tooting High Street and the Upper Tooting Road, as well other minor localised diversions.

Residents in the area who would like an update on the progress of the works once they are underway or who would like to raise any concerns should contact TfL’s customer services team on 0343 222 1234.

  • Drivers and bus passengers whose daily commute takes them through the Wandsworth one-way system are being given advance warning of roadworks that will affect their journeys from this weekend.

Southern Gas Networks will be cordoning off two traffic lanes in Armoury Way from Saturday, May 28 to Sunday, June 5.

Although the works will be carried out during the school half term holiday when traffic on the roads is generally lighter – the works are still likely to cause significant delays to most road users, including bus passengers.

This project has been approved by Transport for London which is the highway authority for the one-way system.
