Free vehicle exhaust checks next week in Battersea
Published: 7 March 2016
Local motorists can take advantage of free vehicle emissions testing next week at the ASDA car park in Clapham Junction town centre.
The inspections will be carried out by trained technicians supported by Wandsworth Council's environmental services team. The event is part of an on-going effort to improve local air quality and to raise awareness about air pollution.
Testing will take place from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th March. Each inspection takes a few minutes to complete and there is no need to book in advance.
Testing a vehicle's exhaust emissions can help pinpoint engine problems early and prevent the need for more expensive repairs at a later date.
The inspections will also identify vehicles which do not currently meet MOT emission standards and advice will be provided on servicing and vehicle upkeep.
Council officers will also be on hand to advise drivers on the simple steps they can take to reduce vehicle emissions and to make savings on running costs.
Copies of the council' 'Smarter Driving Tips' leaflet will be available which suggests practical measures for reducing pollution like removing unnecessary weight from the car, switching off the air conditioning and pumping tyres up to the correct pressure.
