Mayor welcomes Wandsworth’s new residents to Osiers Place
Published: 6 January 2016
The Mayor of Wandsworth Cllr Nicola Nardelli has officially welcomed the residents of Osiers Place to their new eco-friendly homes at the Wandle Delta.
The new development is a partnership project between affordable housing provider Paragon, home builder Taylor Wimpey, the Greater London Authority and Wandsworth Council.
The scheme will provide 152 new homes including 38 properties which have been offered to local people to rent or buy at below market prices.
The development includes one, two or three bedroom homes and the affordable properties are being managed by Paragon.
To mark the official opening of phase one, Mayor Nardelli unveiled an engraved slate plaque and was joined for a tour of the development by council leader Ravi Govindia, council housing spokesman Paul Ellis, Paragon business development director Chris Whelan and Taylor Wimpey senior land manager Adam Lelliot.
All of the new homes at Osiers Place come with energy saving features including high spec kitchen designs and a highly efficient central boiler system supplying hot water and heat.
High standards of insulation reduce heat loss and each apartment comes with the latest ‘smart meters’ which allow residents to monitor and control energy use remotely. These measures help to reduce carbon emissions and cut household energy bills.
The six-storey Osiers Place also includes ground floor commercial space, communal terraces and 100 basement parking spaces.
The site is located within the Wandle Delta, a former industrial area which has been dramatically transformed over the last ten years to become a popular new residential, leisure and commercial quarter.
Pargaon’s Chris Whelan said: “We are absolutely delighted to see the completion of this high quality new development in partnership with Taylor Wimpey. This development enables local people nominated by Wandsworth Council to access affordable homes and we would like to thank the council and the GLA for their support in helping deliver this exciting project. Paragon looks forward to the completion of the second phase of this scheme, and to future development opportunities in the borough.”
Mayor Nardelli said: “I’m delighted to officially welcome the residents of Osiers Place to their new homes here in Wandsworth. It’s hard to believe the Wandle Delta was an inaccessible industrial zone just a few years ago. The area has now come to life with homes, restaurants, cafes, businesses and a network of new walkways along the banks of the Thames and Wandle.”
Cllr Paul Ellis said: “This fantastic partnership project will produce more than 150 new homes for our growing community. Well done to all involved and I particularly want to congratulate Paragon on their largest affordable housing development here in Wandsworth. They have set the bar high and I hope they will continue to deliver many more affordable homes for our residents”
In 2015 more than 900 new affordable homes were approved by Wandsworth Council’s planning committee. During the same period more than 400 affordable homes were built and handed over to local families.
Between now and April 2016, over 450 low cost homes are expected to be delivered , with a further 750 due over the next two years.
