Small Business Saturday bus comes to Balham

The Small Business Saturday bus tour rolled into Balham today to promote the borough’s small independent businesses

The nationwide bus tour has been organised to promote Small Business Saturday UK on December 5 – a campaign that puts small independent businesses in communities across the country in the national spotlight.

The tour started in John O’Groats last month and will visit 29 cities. Wandsworth is one of only two London boroughs that has selected to host the bus this year.

Wandsworth businesses are providing demos and samples, including EA Wates, which will demonstrate how to upholster a chair, Indian Head Massages from Rechere Well Being in Tooting, information sessions on video production from Southfields company Quick Brown Fox, samples from The Dessert Deli in Battersea, We Brought Beer in Balham and Tooting’s Route to Juice.  Business advice sessions were provided by Mi Incubators Ventures, and local small traders also took part in a free workshop on how to use social media to help their business grow

The bus was welcomed by the council’s business spokesman Cllr Guy Senior. He said:

“Wandsworth Council is once again delighted to be promoting Small Business Saturday as part of its annual shop local campaign.  We believe that small businesses are the economic life-blood of our community, and it’s important that we continue to support them – not just for one day, but as often as we can.

“This year our campaign has seen more than 130 local businesses create offers, deals, giveaways and events to entice shoppers on the day. To help promote these great bargains, we have produced our first Shop Local Christmas Guide and created an online shop local directory on the council’s website. Let’s support the local businesses that continue support to support our community.”

Small Business Saturday Campaign Director, Michelle Ovens said:

“Small Business Saturday is exceptional example of collaboration and co-operation with small businesses teaming up in communities around the UK. The bus tour is a very visible way of enabling small businesses to engage with the campaign as we head around the UK, drumming up interest, support and enthusiasm.”

Copies of the Shop Local Christmas guide, detailing town centre festive events and local offers and promotions, are available at libraries, leisure centres and the Town Hall.
