Councillor Jim Maddan has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honour List in recognition for his services to the community.

Cllr Maddan is chair for the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network of England & Wales and has been actively involved with the charity since 1992.

In 2007 he played a key role in the successful relaunch of the nationwide network and has been chair since 2010.

Jim spent more than 30 years serving as a metropolitan police officer before retiring in 1999.  For his last few years of service he was community inspector for Putney and Roehampton.

Cllr Maddan was first elected to the council back in 2002 representing the Conservative Party. He currently holds the post of executive member for adult social services and health, as well as being chair of the health and wellbeing board.

He said: “Neighbourhood Watch is a very valuable tool in the fight against crime, particularly in times of economic constraint, and I am very honoured to have been recognised in this way.  All Neighbourhood and Home Watch members should be proud of the contribution they make to their communities’.”
