Public debates on Gatwick and Heathrow expansion

Published: 29 October 2014

Two public meetings will take place in Putney this November to discuss the plans for expanding Gatwick and Heathrow Airports.

The Airports Commission, headed by Sir Howard Davies, will recommend a new runway is built at one of these airports next year.

The events will give Wandsworth residents a chance to have their say and to hear from senior airport officials and leading aviation campaigners.

GATWICK EXPANSION MEETING

Speakers:

  • Ravi Govindia, Wandsworth Council Leader
  • Justine Greening, Putney MP
  • Nick Dunn, Chief Financial Officer, Gatwick Airport
  • Charles Kirwan-Taylor, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Gatwick Airport

HEATHROW EXPANSION MEETING

8pm, Thursday 27 November, St Mary’s Church, Putney High Street

Speakers:

  • Ravi Govindia, Wandsworth Council Leader
  • Justine Greening, Putney MP
  • John Stewart, Chair, HACAN
  • Matt Gorman, Sustainability & Environment Director, Heathrow Airport
  • Kevin Harman, Heathrow Hub

For both meetings residents are encouraged to arrive slightly before 8pm to find a seat in time for the debate.

Cllr Ravi Govindia said:

“We now know Sir Howard Davies will recommend either Heathrow or Gatwick for expansion at some point after next year’s General Election. All other options have been ruled out.

“This choice could have a profound impact on the quality of life in Wandsworth and on the future of our transport system.

“If you are concerned with the aviation debate then I urge you to attend. This is a chance to learn more about the schemes, question the airport officials and to find out what you can do to influence this important decision.”
