Warm Spaces Charter

All members of the Warm Spaces network across the London Borough of Wandsworth work to these standards.

You'll get a warm welcome as well as Warm Space

Every time you come to a Warm Space you will be given a warm welcome from the staff and volunteers there.

We are free to use

No one will pay to enter our Warm Spaces. There will be no charge for any activities or refreshments provided as part of the Warm Spaces offer.

Everyone is treated equally, with dignity and respect

Everyone has a right to be warm, so everyone in a Warm Space treats people, and is treated by people, with dignity and respect.

Your Warm Space will be a safe space

Safeguarding policies will always be followed. Each venue will also have an escalation procedure in place to respond to difficult situations if they arise.

Where refreshments are offered, food hygiene rules are followed too. Health and safety rules will be observed regarding hazards and personal safety.

Every Warm Space will adhere to data protection rules and legislation.

Each venue will follow the latest public health guidance around COVID-19, flu and other illnesses.

Maintaining confidentiality

If people want to share why they need a Warm Space, they will be listened to and they will be signposted to where they can go for help where possible. Staff and volunteers won't tell anyone else unless they are given permission or it is required because of safeguarding policies.

It does not matter why you need a Warm Space

Every Warm Space is a non-judgemental space; whatever the reason you have for needing to come in, you'll be treated the same and never judged.

We are here to help

People accessing warm spaces may be in need of additional support. Warm Spaces have a role in signposting visitors to advice, advocacy, and support. 

We have developed a series of free online courses called Making Every Contact Count, to help staff develop the skills needed to: 

  • Identify people who could benefit from additional support 
  • Raise the issue with them through a conversation 
  • Refer or signpost to the appropriate service(s) 

Training is completed via e-learning and each module takes no longer than 20 minutes to complete.  We would encourage all organisations volunteering to provide Warm Spaces to access this training.
