Business Rates grants
On March 11 2020, the Chancellor announced in his budget that to combat the COVID-19 crisis businesses getting either Small Business Rate Relief (SBRR) or Retail Discount Relief would receive a government grant depending on which relief they were getting.
The Council has identified all of the businesses that would have been eligible for any of these reliefs on 11 March 2020 and have written to them at their business rates correspondence address inviting them to provide specific information in order to apply for the relevant grant.
We have chosen to write to all businesses as it was considered the most effective and therefore quickest way to reach all those that qualify for the grants, as we do not hold email addresses for all businesses. Therefore, we encourage you to respond to the email address shown on the letter, with all the information we have requested, as soon as possible.
If you have responded to the letter there is no need to complete the online form. If you have completed the online form, there is no need to respond to the letter.
- Read the guidance for businesses carefully before submitting your claim.
Receiving SBRR = £10,000 grant payment.
Receiving Retail Discount with a rateable value of up to £15,000 = £10,000 grant payment.
Receiving Retail Discount (Retail, Hospitality and Leisure) with a rateable value of £15,001 to £50,999 = £25,000 grant payment.
We have been notified of a potential scam relating to the Business Support Grant programme which has been rolled out across the Borough.
Scammers are contacting businesses which have received grants and telling them that they have been paid in error and must repay the grant immediately using the bank details provided by the scammer.
If you receive any such contact, you should not make a payment.
