Re-register a child
A birth should be re-registered in order to add the natural father's details or if the parents of the child have married or entered into a civil partnership after the birth.
It is advisable to make an application for a re-registration to the register office where the child was originally registered.

Adding the natural father's details
You need to complete an application form to re-register a child and add the father's details. Please download an application form from the Government website.
Please return the completed form and the child’s full birth certificate to the Register Office, Town Hall, Wandsworth High Street, London, SW18 2PU.
It can also be dropped off from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.
Re-registration after natural parents have married or formed a civil partnership
A child’s birth, by law, needs to be re-registered if the natural parents have married or entered into a civil partnership together since the child was born. An application form needs to be signed by both parents. Please download an application form from the Government website.
This should be submitted together with the following documents:
- The child’s full birth certificate
- The parents' marriage certificate or certificate of civil partnership
Please return the completed form, the child’s full birth certificate and parent's marriage certificate to the Register Office, Town Hall, Wandsworth High Street, London, SW18 2PU.
It can also be dropped off from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.

You will be contacted by a registrar to book an appointment once we have received the application form.
Babies born outside of Wandsworth
In circumstances where it is not possible to make an application for a re-registration to the register office where the child was originally registered, a re-registration by declaration can be completed.
Please return the completed form, the child’s full birth certificate and if applicable the marriage certificate, to the Register Office. The form and certificate(s) can be posted to The Register Office, Town Hall, Wandsworth High Street, London, SW18 2PU.
It can be dropped off from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.
