Year 6 test
As well as being a way of assessing the ability of all year 6 pupils, the test has been designed to provide Wandsworth secondary schools with the information they need before offering places.
If your child has a statement of Special Educational Needs they do not have to take the test.
Timing of the test
The Wandsworth Year 6 admissions test has moved to September 2016 for children starting secondary school in 2017.
This is a requirement of the national admissions code and will help you to assess whether your child may be eligible for a selective (ability) place at Burntwood School, Ernest Bevin College or Graveney School before making an application.
You must ensure that your child can take the test on the set date. Only in the most exceptional circumstances will there be an opportunity to take the test on another day.
The closing date of 9 September to register for the test has now passed for pupils attending an independent school, a state primary school outside of Wandsworth or educated otherwise.
If your child attends a state primary school in Wandsworth, he/she will take the test at school and there is no need to register for the test.
If you are considering applying for Ashcroft Technology Academy or Chestnut Grove Academy, your child must sit the Year 6 admissions test. Without this, the school(s) will not be able to place your child in an ability band.
Children who have not sat the test in September but subsequently apply for a place at Ashcroft Technology Academy, Burntwood School, Chestnut Grove Academy, Ernest Bevin College or Graveney School by the national closing date of 31 October will be invited to sit the test at a later date.
Children in Wandsworth state primary schools
If your child attends a state primary school in Wandsworth, he/she will take the test at school during school time, normally on 22 September 2016.
The school will make all the arrangements for this.
Children not attending a Wandsworth state primary school
If you registered for the test by 9 September your child will take the test at one of the borough's test centres normally on Saturday 24 September. We will write to you with details of where and when your child will take the test.
Please ensure that your child takes the test on the set date. Unless there are exceptional reasons, it will not be possible for an alternative date to be arranged.
You will be notified of your child's test results by 15 October. Find out more about marking and results.
Specialist aptitude test
If you are considering applying for a specialist aptitude place at a Wandsworth school, you will have to take the particular school's aptitude test as well as the Wandsworth Year 6 Test.
