At its meeting on 20th March 2003, WLSP members expressed
concern that the war in Iraq may impact on good relations
between communities and faith groups in the borough.
The WLSP therefore calls upon:-
- Voluntary and community groups to consider how they can
further promote understanding between faith groups including
visits and social exchanges to demonstrate respect and support
for one another.
- Faith groups of all religions to consider how they can work
together to promote understanding between faith groups.
- The Council, Police, and Health Service and other statutory
agencies to promote respect and understanding between communities
and faith groups within their establishments and amongst their
staff, including schools, and in the delivery of their services.
- The Police to act promptly yet sensitively to any reported
incidents and in particular to ensure the protection of mosques
and other places of worship.
- The Council and Police to work together to ensure the safety
of Iraqi and other refugees in the Borough who may be scapegoated
