The Wandsworth Local Strategic Partnership (WLSP) is a 'super-partnership' set up to look at ways to improve the quality of life for those living and working in the borough. Its aim is to work together with all sectors of the community on a range of key inter-related issues to improve the quality of life in the Borough, making it a better place in which to live and work.

This purpose is summarised in the WLSP’s vision statement set out in the Borough’s draft Sustainable Community Strategy. This is a long term plan setting out the ways in which all the key stakeholders in the borough will work together to deliver improvements for residents and service users. Partners are committed to making Wandsworth:-

"A place which is safer, healthier, more prosperous and sustainable – a good place to live and work now and a better place in the future."

The WLSP will achieve this aim by working in partnership across the six strategic priority areas set out in the Community Strategy:

  • Making Wandsworth safer;
  • Improving the local environment;
  • Building a prosperous community;
  • Ensuring all children and young people meet their full potential
  • Improving health and social care; and
  • Meeting housing needs;
  • Supporting active citizens and good neighbours.

The WLSP members will meet its aims by

  • Providing and sharing information to set strategic aims for the Borough;
  • Overseeing the development, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the agreed Sustainable Community Strategy;
  • Agreeing, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Local Area Agreement;
  • Promoting equality of opportunity;
  • Tackling cross-cutting problems affecting the Borough;
  • Encouraging constructive engagement of the local community in the above activities.

Our approach
The WLSP had its first meeting in September 2001. It has 25 members drawn from a spectrum of local public, voluntary and community organisations.

The WLSP is currently chaired by the Leader of the Council, Councillor Edward Lister. The elected deputy Chair is Chief Superintendent Stewart Low, the Borough Police Commander. Elections for the post of chairman are held regularly according to the WLSP's Constitution and Terms of Reference:
