Southfields station and village centre public realm improvements - current status

The design for Southfields was considered at Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee - decommissioned* (CSOSC)  on 21 June 2018. Future committees with responsibility for transport related matters has changed to Strategic Planning and Transportation Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Current status

The Southfields public realm improvement scheme started on Replingham Road earlier this year. The work paused briefly at the end of March due to COVID-19 however works resumed in early June. View the indicative programme which sets out the dates for the remaining construction of the scheme.

Work on construction of the scheme has begun.

Next steps

Delivered in phases, the works will be scheduled to take account of any competing demands on the transport network to manage access effectively. Taking account of breaks for Christmas and events such as the Wimbledon Championships it is anticipated the works could take a year to complete.

Further survey works have been commissioned to assess drainage and services underground. Permissions are being sought from TfL to make changes necessary to the junction and a clear approach to any public safety measures required for the station will be explored.

Other works taking place in the area prior to and possibly during the works include:

  • Sainsbury's extension (the old petrol station)
  • Southern Gas Network mains works
