Residents interested in getting into the construction industry on the Winstanley and York Road Estates will benefit from health and safety construction training, as part of a successful funding bid put forward by the council, in partnership with Battersea Power station.
A ‘Construction Gateway’ training project will be established on-site at the existing Battersea Power Station Training Centre, helping to support local people into the construction industry.
The Construction Skills Fund (CSF), funded by the Department for Education aims to train up thousands of workers and tackle the skills shortage in the construction industry.
Councillor Rory O’Broin, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Skills and Employment said: “This investment in skilling our workforce provides an exciting opportunity to help people change career and get work-ready residents and jobseekers into employment in Wandsworth.”
The Health and Safety training for scaffolding is due to commence in February 2019 and will take place on the Winstanley and York Road Estates. The training is particularly targeted at individuals new to the construction industry or those looking for a career change.
