Discount scheme values volunteers

Published: Friday 9th February 18

A scheme supported by the Wandsworth Grant Fund recognising the hard work of volunteers wants to hear from local people who could benefit.

ValueYou operates in parts of London and in Portsmouth and has operated in Wandsworth since 2016. Now thanks to a council grant in the latest wave of Wandworth Grant Fund awards it will be further embedding itself into the borough.

ValueYou is a charity that offers volunteers discount cards and gift vouchers from hundreds of small independent businesses. The cards are valid for two years and each volunteer also gets a one-off gift voucher.

It’s completely free for volunteers and organisation to take part. Discounts of at least ten per cent are on offer from businesses including restaurants, dry cleaners, florists, chemists, beauticians and more.

CEO Dr Kieran Mullan said the aim of the scheme is simply to thank volunteers for their contribution to society.  “Our grant from the council will enable us to embed the scheme in Wandsworth. Now we are reaching out to charities and volunteers in the community to let them know about the scheme and are looking for independent businesses willing to take part.”

The team at Oasis

Wandsworth Oasis, which raises money for people living with HIV is one of the Wandsworth charities to already get involved.  Several of its volunteers have signed up to the volunteer recognition scheme, and most of their charity shops offer a ten per cent discount to discount card holders.

CEO Gill Perkins said: “We signed up to support the scheme because we know the impact volunteers make to the local communities and wanted to show our appreciation. We have a team of volunteers who work really hard and we are pleased the scheme is available to them as a simple yet tangible thank you”.

Grants committee chairman Cllr Melanie Hampton said: “We were happy to award a grant to ValueYou because people who volunteer their time are the backbone of our community, and this scheme is a simple and effective way of recognising their work. I would urge other organisations and local groups with schemes that can benefit their community to apply to the Wandsworth Grant Fund.”

The deadline for the next round of applications to the Wandsworth Grant Fund is April 9. Find out more at, or email
