Keep it local this Christmas
Published: Thursday 14th December 17
As the countdown to Christmas continues, shoppers are being urged to buy the rest of their festive shopping in neighbourhood stores.
During the recent Small Business Saturday, stores across the borough ran a range of special offers, discounts and events on Saturday to attract new customers and encourage them to come back again and again.
The council’s business spokesman Cllr Kim Caddy, pictured above meeting traders, said: “It was a pleasure to meet so many local traders on Small Business Saturday. The council supports the event because shines a light on our local stores and encourage people to see what’s on offer on their doorstep. Shopping online does nothing to help nurture communities or keep local town centres thriving.
“The day helped kickstart the Christmas shopping period in Wandsworth, and now we want to encourage residents to eat, drink and shop locally for the rest of the festive season, and the whole year round.”
Events this weekend in the borough’s town centres include a day of free parkour performances and workshops for all ages and abilities, plus a chance to go on an ‘immersive soundwalk’ as part of the Winter Trails Festival in Nine Elms. Both events are on Saturday. Read more.
