Space for local startups at Battersea Power Station
Published: Friday 8th September 17
Wandsworth small businesses and creative entrepreneurs could get the chance to showcase showcase their wares rent-free at Battersea Power Station.
The project, which runs until Christmas, is part of a programme of purpose-designed retail spaces at the main entrance to Circus West Village. Creative brands and designer-maker businesses will be able to use the spaces alongside partnerships with larger cultural brands.
These studio spaces will form part of the emerging community at Battersea Power Station alongside independent restaurants and a curated programme of activities that take place every weekend on the riverside in front of the Power Station. Initially, the spaces will be available from Thursday to Sunday each week, and the tenancies will rotate regularly to showcase a range of creative ideas.
The development has a link directly along the river to potential customers using Battersea Park, and later this Autumn even more people will also be able to visit via the River Bus with a new dedicated pier at Battersea Power Station.
Wandsworth Council leader Ravi Govindia said: “Wandsworth is home to some incredibly exciting and creative start-ups and this is a great opportunity for them to showcase their work at an iconic London venue. This is just one of the ways local traders are benefitting from the new commercial hub taking shape at Battersea Power Station and I encourage our small business community to take full advantage.”
Rob Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “We want to support a new generation of creative people and are seeking young, independent commercial businesses that are making products and stories across design, art, craft, fashion, publishing, new tech and beyond.”
For the chance to join this programme, email the Battersea Power Station curation team at email@example.com with a quick introduction (1 x A4 pdf) about what you do, what you make, and what you would like to bring to this new creative destination. They will then send you more details.
They stress that not all pitches and ideas will be able to be accommodated, but potential tenants’ flexibility with timing, duration and format will help with the programming.
