Think Pink and save money on your business rates

Published: Friday 8th September 17

Hundreds of local businesses could claim a reduction in their business rates by filling in a simple form.

The council has sent out pink envelopes containing a simple application form to local businesses it has identified as suffering an increase in the 2017 business rates revaluation and are potentially eligible for a tax break that could save them money on their business rates.

Business rates are set by national government, not by local councils. The revaluation support scheme protects vulnerable local firms from an increase in their business rates bill. The amount each trader can claim back will vary.

The council’s business spokesman Cllr Kim Caddy said: “Look out for your pink envelope, and if you receive it be sure to fill in the form and send it back. You could save money.

“We’re keen to get as many  as possible claiming this revaluation support because it means money can be reinvested into local high streets.”

The council believes it has identified all potential eligible businesses and issued them with a pink envelope. However, if you haven’t received a pink envelope but think your business might be eligible, carefully check the criteria of the scheme on the council’s website. If you still think you may be eligible, then call (020) 7378 5941 to speak to an advisor.
