Get set for special needs employment fair
Published: Tuesday 31st January 17
Sign up now for next month’s Get Set GO 2! event to help young people with special educational needs get into education, employment or training.
At last year's fair, Hao2 showed how virtual reality can help prepare people for work
It will also provide information to parents, carers and professionals such as social workers and careers advisors about the support and services available in Wandsworth, with experts on hand to answer any concerns young people or their parents or carers have about their future.
This is the second time the event has been held, following a highly successful fair last summer attended by more than 200 people. Feedback from that event showed that people would prefer it to be held earlier in the year to give them plenty of time to use the information they find out.
It is organised jointly by the council and South Thames College, with support from the Wandsworth Ambitions Careers Cluster.
The day will include information stands, workshops and presentations to demonstrate the various routes young people can take into education, employment or training, including virtual reality headsets to enable young people to experience what life in an office could be like.
Young people are invited to attend on their own or with parents and carers, and schools are welcome to bring groups of students. You are welcome to attend the whole event, or just part of it.
Last year 95 per cent of visitors agreed that attending the event helped them to find out more about what training and support is available for over 16s, with 91 per cent intending to follow up contact with one or more of the organisations they met.
Business spokesman Kim Caddy said: “We want to ensure all
our young people, including those with special needs, are able to make the most
of all the job and training opportunities opening up in our borough. The Get
Set GO! event is the perfect way to find out what’s out there, and how to
