Homeshare in Wandsworth

DescriptionHomeshare is a scheme that offers live-in companionship and support to people in their own homes in Wandsworth. It matches people who have a spare room and need extra support around the house with younger people looking for affordable accommodation and willing to provide help at home (home sharers).

Home sharers can help with things like cooking, cleaning, laundry and shopping, taking care of pets, as well as providing friendship and companionship. The type of support varies with each matching. This type of live-in support doesn’t replace a full care service, but can be used alongside other care support and as respite. It also provides the peace and security of having someone there every night when family and friends aren't able to be.

The minimum length of time for the arrangement is 6 months, providing the person with 10 hours support each week. The Homeshare team personally interview all applicants and visit the person's home to ensure that they find the right match. They make detailed checks of home sharers, DBS checks (criminal records) and two references to make sure the matching works well for both people. They also provide on-going monitoring and reviews to ensure that the match is successful.

Homeshare is run by Novus, a registered charity that is the consortium of London carers' centres, which Wandsworth Carers' Centre is part of. The scheme is available in Wandsworth and across London.
