Drugs and alcohol - People with learning disabilities
|Description||People with learning disabilities may have issues with drugs and alcohol like anybody else - you can find out more about where to get help here. Many live in the community with varying levels of support. They try to lead normal lives and therefore may come across the same temptations as people without learning disabilities. |
Alcohol is more common than drug misuse and people with a mild learning disability may be more likely to have these difficulties than those with more severe learning disabilities.
If you are concerned about alcohol or drug use, the various drug and alcohol services in Wandsworth are there to help. Any of these agencies can assess someone and offer whatever help they are able to give.
|Further information||Some treatment programmes may be more appropriate than others, depending on the person and their circumstances. For example, group therapy may not be as suitable as one to one sessions or an abstinence programme that is supported in normal day to day living.|
