Cold Weather Payments

DescriptionCold Weather Payments are intended to help towards extra heating costs during very cold weather. You are eligible for a Cold Weather Payment if you get one of the following benefits:

- Income Support
- Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit

Except for Pension Credit, you must also meet other criteria to get cold weather payments, such as receiving a pensioner premium or disability premium or have a child who is disabled or under the age of 5. Find out more on the GOV.UK website.

You don't need to apply for the payment. If you are eligible, a payment of £25.00 is paid automatically for each seven day period of very cold weather between 1 November to 31 March. You do not have to pay it back.
