Wandsworth Community Chaplaincy Trust
|Address||The Vestry Hall, |
St Mary Magdalene Church,
10A Wiseton Road,
|Description||Wandsworth Community Chaplaincy Trust (WCCT) is a befriending scheme for prisoners at HMP Wandsworth that exists to provide care and support for offenders and former offenders of all faiths and none. It is a registered charity. |
Working together, the Prison's resettlement chaplain and the WCCT outreach worker build contacts with faith communities and other local organisations that are interested in supporting ex-prisoners. To support men while in Prison and through the gates in to the community, WCCT recruits, trains and supervises volunteer befrienders from the community.
WCCT aims to:
- Improve the life chances of ex-prisoners by supporting their aims and goals to become contributing members of society
- Contribute to building safer communities by helping ex-prisoners to break the cycle of reoffending
- Inform local faith communities about the issues surrounding the resettlement of ex-prisoners
- Develop work with statutory, corporate, civic, faith and voluntary sector organisations who support the same aims
