Beyond Barriers Project - carers mentoring service
|Address||The Vestry Hall, |
|Description||Beyond Barriers is a mentoring service for carers that works specifically with hard to reach communities such as refugees and asylum seekers, black and ethnic minority people and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. The service is run by Help for Carers formerly South Thames Crossroads, a partner of the national charity Carers Trust. |
Through volunteer mentoring, it aims to support those who may be reluctant to use agencies or services and perhaps may not consider themselves as carers. They may be caring or have cared for an older person, a partner, adult or child with physical or learning disabilities or adults with mental health issues.
The service aims to be a source of support, advice, emotional support and information on carers’ issues and the availability of services throughout the boroughs of Wandsworth, Merton, Lambeth, Croydon, and Sutton. Mentors may also be able to accompany you to attend appointments and social events if required.
It has active working relationships with carers organisations in these boroughs, such as local carer’s centres.
