My Guide

Burghfield Common
PostcodeRG7 3YG
DescriptionMy Guide aims to support blind and partially sighted people to get out and about and to carry out various activities that they want to do. The My Guide service has vetted and appropriately trained volunteers who use guiding techniques to help people with sight loss to work towards the mobility goals they want to achieve. This could involve accessing activities and places of interest in the local community, learning familiar routes and improving fitness.

My Guide aims to reduce the isolation that many people with sight loss experience, helping to rebuild their confidence and regain their independence.

Types of activities carried out include:

• Walks in the park
• Going to the gym
• Going shopping
• Taking up a sport
• Going to a club
• Going to the library
• Going to Museums/Concerts/cinema

During their time together, the My Guide volunteer and service user identify support which can be put in place at the end of the partnership, such as other local services or friends and family members who could be trained in sighted guiding.
