Podiatrists (chiropodists)

DescriptionPodiatrists diagnose and treat disorders, diseases and other problems affecting the feet. They are also sometimes known as chiropodists, and they can give advice about how to look after your feet and provide help with common foot problems, such as:

- Dry and cracked heels
- Corns and calluses
- Toenail problems
- Flat feet
- Foot smells

Treatment may be available on the NHS free of charge, although this may not always be the case. Even if treatment isn't available free of charge, your GP can refer you to a podiatrist for private treatment.

You can also contact a podiatrist/chiropodist yourself. If you choose to do this, make sure they are qualified and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HPC) and are a member of a relevant professional organisation (see the links below).
