Paul's Cancer Support Centre
|Address||20-22 York Road, |
|Description||Established in 1983, the centre is a registered charity that helps anyone who has been affected by cancer. The centre's services can be used by anyone who can reach the centre, which is less than 10 minutes walk from Clapham Junction station in south London. The charity aims to offer a warm and welcoming environment, in which each person is regarded as an individual with their own unique response to the changes brought about by a life-threatening illness. |
The centre has offered mindfulness courses over the last 5 years and has put on special mindfulness and cancer courses at Paul’s centre and St. George’s Hospital Trust in Tooting. It also runs innovative online and on-site 'Coping with Cancer Stress' courses.
The services provided include:
- One-to-one services, such as counselling, various forms of massage and reflexology, hypnotherapy, healing and relaxation, and visualisation
- Groups and classes, including a creativity group, meditation and qigong classes
- Support groups, including African-Caribbean and Asian support groups
- A telephone support line
- A lending library and Macmillan Information Service which provides information about cancer, its treatments and advice on accessing practical help.
The centre also runs a home visiting service for people with cancer and their carers. Trained volunteers visit people at home or in care homes and offer friendship, socialising and alternative therapies such as massage and counselling.
