Independent Living Fund

DescriptionThe Independent Living Fund (ILF) closed on 30 June 2015 – from 1 July 2015 local authorities are responsible for meeting the eligible care and support needs of people who previously received ILF support.

You can find out more on our website, or by contacting us, about who qualifies for help from Wandsworth Council with care and support needs, how we assess your needs, and how direct payments for care and support work locally.

The ILF was set up to provide financial support to help enable disabled people to choose to live in the community rather than in residential care. It provided a payment that enables people to purchase care from an agency or pay the wages of a privately employed personal assistant. The fund was originally set up in 1988 to run for 5 years and after this is was extended until it was eventually closed on 30 June 2015. For more information about the fund and its closure visit the GOV.UK website.
