Equipment and adaptations to help

Equipment and adaptations to help

There are many ways equipment can help. There is equipment for people who have problems with walking and getting around, people with sensory impairments, as well as equipment to help around the home.

If you have difficulty walking or are concerned about falling then physiotherapy, special exercises or a falls prevention service may help. Walking sticks and frames can also be helpful. Services such as St John's Therapy Centre can provide this sort of support, and your GP can refer you to a wheelchair service if required.

You may be able to get small items of equipment prescribed to help you within the home, as part of the Transforming Community Equipment Services scheme. Many of the 'accredited retailers' that provide equipment as part of the scheme are local pharmacies, and you can also simply buy equipment from these accredited retailers.

If you are eligible, you may be able to get support from the council's occupational therapy service for larger equipment or adaptations in your home.
