Public asked to choose how £182k is invested at Battersea’s Falcon Park consultation

Published: Friday 11th January 19

A consultation is about to get underway with people in Battersea about what new play facilities and landscaping improvements they would like to see in Falcon Park.

The council’s open spaces contractor Enable Leisure and Culture is seeking the public’s views on the best way to spend £182,500 which has been earmarked for new play equipment and landscaping changes at the northern end of the park.

The project coincides with work being carried out in the south western section of Falcon Park to provide a new £2.1m all-weather pitch as part of a scheme designed to boost sports participation and improve leisure facilities for the area’s young people.

The new 3G artificial grass pitch will replace four existing junior size grass pitches which are regularly deemed unplayable in the winter months because of waterlogging.

One of the three options

Replacing them with an all-weather playing surface with floodlights means young footballers and other sports clubs will be able to use them for around 80 hours a week - compared to the ten hour limit recommended for grass pitches by the Football Association.

The new pitch will be used mainly for football but will also support other sports like rugby and cricket.

Following the consultation for the all-weather pitch local people came up with a series of suggestions for improvements at the northern end of the park and based on that feedback, three sets of designs have been drawn up.

Another option local people can choose

Now local people are being asked which of the three designs they like the best.

The consultation begins on Monday, January 14. People can view the designs and choose their favourite by visiting https://haveyoursay.citizenspace.com/wandsworthecs/falcon-park-19

Staff from Enable will also be holding two drop-in sessions at Sacred Heart primary school in Este Road where local people will be able to ask questions about the consultation and the various designs.

These sessions will be on:

• Wednesday, January 16 - 3pm to 6pm
• Saturday, January 19 – 12noon to 3pm

If people would like a paper copy of the consultation questionnaire they can email consult@wandsworth.gov.uk or contact the parks office on (020) 3959 0060.
