Nominate Your Local Sporting Heroes

Published: Friday 30th November 18

Do you know someone who is a sporting hero or has given up their time to support sport or physical activity across the borough – then we want to hear from you.

The council’s annual Active Wandsworth Awards for Sport and Physical Activity are aimed at highlighting the people who have achieved sporting excellence throughout the year or made a significant contribution in making sport happen.

With ten separate categories, the awards recognise individual sporting achievements, including the Sports Person of the Year, as well highlighting the efforts of coaches, sports clubs, schools and local organisations and all those who get more people participating in sport or activity.

Cllr Steffi Sutters, cabinet member for community services and open spaces, said: “These awards showcase some of the best sporting achievements across the borough and also give us the opportunity to acknowledge people who give up so much of their time to support sport and sporting institutions.

“So if you know someone whose efforts need highlighting please don’t forget to get your nominations in before the deadline and help us recognise, not just those who have excelled in sport, but also those people who are often the unsung heroes.”

The closing date for nominations are Monday 14 January 2019 and can be made online at or to find out more please call (020) 3959 0030. The shortlisted nominees, along with their friends and family are invited to the Active Wandsworth Awards Ceremony in February in the Civic Suite, Wandsworth Town. Make sure you nominate today!
