Two weeks left for parents to make their secondary school choices
Published: Wednesday 17th October 18
Parents in Wandsworth are being reminded they have only two weeks left to make September 2019 secondary school choices for their children.
Preparations are now well underway for admissions to secondary schools next September - and to secure a place parents must submit their application by Wednesday, October 31.
This crucial deadline applies to children who were born between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008 and are currently in their final year at primary school.
Parents can find out more about Wandsworth’s 11 state-funded secondary schools and helpful information on how to apply for a place by reading the borough's 'Choose a Wandsworth Secondary School' brochure'.
The brochure and more information outlining the simple and easy-to-follow application process can also be found on the council’s website. Parents and carers who want to make an online application will find a link to the e-admissions website on this page.
Copies of the brochure can also be obtained by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephoning (020) 8871 7316. Staff on that number can also help with any queries parents and carers may have.
Parents of children living in the borough must apply online or submit their application form to Wandsworth Town Hall by the October 31 deadline. Those living elsewhere must apply to their home borough by the same date.
People who submit their school choices ahead of this month’s deadline will be told the outcome of their applications in March.
Cabinet member for education Cllr Sarah McDermott said: “Here in Wandsworth we have some of the capital’s best schools, with many officially rated as outstanding, so there are some really excellent schools for parents to consider
“To help parents choose the right school we have produced a really useful brochure that contains lots of helpful information about each one and also provides a step-by-step guide to the applications process.
"Parents need to list the schools they would like their child to attend, in order of preference. The system is designed to allocate them a place at their highest ranked school of choice, as long as they meet the admissions criteria.
“They can list up to six schools in any part of London on the one application but it is always recommended to include at least one that is close to where they live.
“And it goes without saying that it’s absolutely vital that parents submit their applications ahead of this month’s deadline.”
People who apply online, using the secure and confidential pan-London e-admissions website, will receive helpful tips and prompts as they go through the process.
Applications can be edited and amended as often as parents choose right up to the deadline and each time it is completed parents will receive an email notification confirming the application has been properly received and registered.
