The supermarket has teamed up with the council’s Work Match service to run a  recruitment and training scheme. Twenty-five local residents will be trained before being interviewed for jobs at the Wandsworth or Putney store. The store offers competitive rates of pay and a comprehensive training programme. Plus Waitrose and Partners staff are partners in the business, not just employees.

To apply contact Sonia Wilson no later than Monday September 24. Email Sonia.Wilson@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk, call (020) 8871 5165 or visit www.wandsworthworkmatch.org

Work Match, now in its fifth year, is a free service run by Wandsworth Council matching up people looking for work with local employees with vacancies. It also provides pre-employment training, interview coaching, guidance with applications and ongoing support once candidates find a job. So far it has helped almost a thousand people into employment.

Leila from Battersea contacted Work Match after struggling for a year to find a job near her home that was right for her.  After speaking to the team she identified a job with Waitrose as a great match for her next career move. She worked on her job interview and application technique with Work Match, was successful in her application for Waitrose and has just started employment.

The council’s spokesman for economic development, skills and employment, Cllr Rory O’Broin, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to work for a company that frequently tops lists of the country’s best employers.

“Work Match is part of the council’s support package to ensure it is  local people who benefit job opportunities being created by regeneration and inward investment into the borough. If this latest opportunity at Waitrose isn’t for you, Work Match works with dozens of other local firms, so get in touch and see how they can help.”

I don’t think Waitrose customers will appreciate jobseekers working in their shop!
