Published: Thursday 12th July 18
Stuck for something to do this summer? The council’s youth service has a comprehensive programme of activities for young people in its first ever Summer Pick ‘n’ Mix.
The programme runs from July 23 to August 17, but book now to secure your space. Activities are delivered in partnership with local groups and organisations.
Summer Pick ‘n’ Mix is for all young people aged 11-19, or up to 25 with a disability. Most activities are free, or heavily subsidised, and include:
- Music and beatbox boot camp
- Fashion design
- Hip hop theatre production
- Drumming lessons
- Driving theory and practical driving experience
- Sailing and watersports
- Horse riding
- A DJ workshop
- Cycling at the Olympic Velodrome
The council’s children’s services spokesman Sarah McDermott said: “We have worked with our partners to come up with activities that will be fun, but will also keep children active, learning and connected with their communities.”
As well as Pick ‘n’ Mix, the borough’s network of children’s centres and youth clubs will be holding activities and there will be holiday playschemes at Christ Church Primary School in Battersea and Smallwood Primary School in Tooting.
Wandsworth’s libraries will be holding special events, plus the annual Summer Reading Challenge, and the Battersea Summer Scheme will be running its annual Sport in the Park initiative. Meanwhile the Met Police are running a Summer Camp at Burntwood School.
There are also eight pages of summer listings in the new edition of Headstart Magazine and information about activities for young people, including children with disabilities, on the council’s Family Information Service.
