Event to inspire borough’s young business stars

Published: Tuesday 13th March 18

This week the first ever Wandsworth Enterprise Schools Week is encouraging budding entrepreneurs to think about a career in business.

The event is a chance for the borough’s young people to get involved in Wandsworth Enterprise Week. This event, now in its fifth year, was held last week and gave dozens of businesses and start-ups advice and support.

One of the sessions at Southfields School

The schools event runs from March 12-16 and features inspiring sessions from successful young entrepreneurs sharing their story of how they got started, with ten sessions in schools across the borough.. There will also be interactive workshops to give students an insight into self-employment and talks from business support organisations..

Jonny Sobczyk, CEO of the Peter Jones Foundation for Enterprise said: “We are delighted to be working with Wandsworth Council on their inaugural Wandsworth Enterprise Schools Week.

“Giving young people the opportunity to develop enterprise skills is at the heart of what we do and it is a fantastic opportunity to speak to students and staff to help them develop much needed enterprise capabilities, experience and knowledge. We can’t wait to see what ideas the young people of Wandsworth come up with.”

The council’s business spokesman Cllr Kim Caddy said: “We are lucky to have a thriving business community in Wandsworth, but we need to make sure we inspire the next generation of businessmen and women.

“There are a lot of new opportunities for the business sector being created by the regeneration projects in the borough – especially the chance to supply the new developments in Nine Elms – and our school pupils are well placed to make the most of them over the next few years.

“We’re working hard to establish good links between employers and schools, and to provide young people with apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience through our Lifelong Learning Team. We hope Enterprise Schools Week will help find the next Steve Jobs or Richard Branson in Wandsworth.”
