Tributes paid to former Councillor Stewart Finn

Tributes are being paid to former Bedford ward councillor Stewart Finn who has passed away at the age of 48.

He served as a Conservative councillor from 1998 until 2010 and was made an Honorary Alderman of the London Borough of Wandsworth in recognition of his 12 years of public service on behalf of the people of Balham and Tooting.

Paying tribute, Wandsworth Cllr leader Ravi Govindia said: “Stewart was a sincere and passionate campaigner on the issues he cared deeply about. His loss at such a young age has come as a huge shock to all those who knew him.

“We will remember him as a warm and genial man with a tremendous sense of humour. He served the people of Bedford ward with great distinction for many years. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, especially his wife Elizabeth and his children.”

During his time on the council Hon Alderman Finn served as Chairman of both the licensing committee and regulatory licensing committee and as deputy chairman of both the housing and environment and public services committees. He also served on the education, social services, corporate resources, strategic planning and transport committees.

As former councillor colleagues of Stewart, we are both deeply shocked by this news. Stewart was a kind and warm hearted colleague and we remember him with great affection. Our condolences to his family.
